Holly-Jolly Watchlist- Alexa Cooper

When the season arrives, and things begin to be decorated with lots of lights and lots of festive decorations, there isn't anything better than curling up with friends and family to watch a good Christmas movie. Whether you want to laugh, have a cozy, nostalgic feeling, or something to put you in the Christmas spirit, there's a movie for every feeling. Below are some of the top-rated, classic, crowd-pleaser movies that are perfect for getting everyone into the holiday mood!

First up, we have Elf, which can be appealing to anyone who needs a good laugh after holiday shopping or a family-friendly movie to watch together. The movie is about Buddy, a human raised by elves, and his journey to New York to find his biological father. Buddy adventures through forests and cities, meeting new people and animals wherever he goes. Buddy spreads holiday cheer wherever he goes and brings a goofy, energetic, heartwarming feeling to those watching the movie. Some common lines you may have heard are "Son of a nutcracker!", "I'm a cotton-headed-ninny muggins," and "Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?"

The next movie you should add to your watch list is Home Alone. This movie involves Kevin, an 8-year-old kid who gets left behind when his family takes a vacation to Paris. Two burglars think that the house is vacant, and they don't know that Kevin is still there. This movie is all about how Kevin keeps the burglars away from his home. This movie is a good comedy, involving mischief and sincere moments, making it enjoyable for all ages to enjoy. Some notable scenes from these movies include the traps that Kevin sets against the burglars, the "scream" after the aftershave scene, and the party scene where someone on the TV says, "Keep the Change, you Filthy Animal."

The Third movie, and one of my personal favorites, that I would recommend adding to the list of must-watch holiday movies is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. This movie is definitely more adult-oriented, with the comedy and jokes made throughout the movie. In this movie, the Griswold family attempts to have a perfect family Christmas, but unfortunately, things don't exactly go as planned. This movie is full of slapstick chaos, turkey disasters, and many other things that you wouldn't think could go wrong but do. You can recognize this movie through the scene of Clark plugging in the Christmas lights, the RV's toilet being emptied into the sewer,  and the Clark Griswold meltdown rant.

While these are just some of the movies, many others should be added to the list, like The Holiday, The Polar Express, and The Santa Clause movies. A lot of these movies can be found on many cable channels, along with Hallmark movies that are also good for getting into the spirit. They are also popular on streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and Disney+. Christmas movies aren't just about the entertainment but also rituals. Movies can help with gathering families, easing holiday anxieties, and adding humor and kindness to the hectic holiday world!
